Ever since the idea of hybrid vehicles started working its way into the automotive industry, we have had our fingers crossed that Land Rover would put forth a half electric, half gasoline model of its own. Well here at Land Rover Central Houston we were starting to suspect that we would never see a green machine come from our favorite British automaker, but with this year's Geneva Motor Show came the Range_E Concept; a hybrid SUV that doesn't make compromises.
This new Range Rover vehicle was initially built as a concept, but now it appears that the Range_E Concept will go into full-scale production. So far, Land Rover officials have withheld a name for this new hybrid SUV, but a Chief Program Engineer for Range Rover recently told an Australian news service that we could see some of these new models in showrooms by the end of the year.
We have been keeping our ears to the ground and picking up all the news we can about this new mystery hybrid, but this is what we have heard so far. The new Range Rover hybrid will be built with a 3.0-liter V6 engine paired with a large electric motor. Together, their power will be channeled through a ZF eight-speed transmission that will allow this SUV to have 333 horsepower, a zero to 60 time of under seven seconds and an estimated 45 miles per gallon.
To be fair, these are only rumors for the moment and we should take anything we hear with a grain of salt until our suspicions are confirmed by Land Rover officials.
