It has been a few months since we last heard about the All-Terrain Electric Research Vehicle. This modified Land Rover Defender was built as a concept and was debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show this past May. Well since its moment in the sun, this electric-powered Land Rover has done more than let this new model gather dust in a garage. The company has put the All-Terrain Research Vehicle to work at an eco-park in Cornwall, UK.
The Eden Project, located in Cornwall, is a destination for children and adults where they can tour new gardens and bio-domes to learn about conservation and environmental preservation. At Eden Project, the electric land Rover is being used to pull a four-carriage road train that moves guests from one side of the park to the other.
The powertrain in the Electric Research Vehicle is perfectly suited for this sort of heavy pulling and low speed work. The electric motor can deliver 94 horsepower and 243 lb.-ft. of torque. Land Rover engineers have not stopped tinkering with this green machine either. They have already increased the size of the battery to add range, and now they are experimenting with a regenerating mechanism that will charge the battery when the vehicle rolls downhill.
