The Pikes Peak Hill Climb takes place every year, and is said to be one of the most practical tests for automakers who want to see what sort of merit their vehicles really have when it comes to scaling thousands of vertical feet up 12.42 miles of track with over 156 corners. High in the Rocky Mountains, Pikes Peak presents a whole range of unique challenges due to the lower levels of oxygen when you are so high above sea level.
Thankfully, the large direct-injected 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine of the Range Rover Sport was able to handle everything the course threw at it. Whipping up 510 horsepower, this new Land Rover model completed the entire 12 mile track in only 12 minutes and 35.61 seconds, and thereby earned the best time out of any sport utility vehicle that participated in the competition.
