Today, we are here on our blog to report some rather disappointing news. Just when it seemed like every Land Rover fan in North America was getting ready for the release of the reincarnated Land Rover Defender,  we received news that production of this iconic off-roader would be delayed.

We first heard about Land Rover's plans to resuscitate the legendary Defender back in 2011 when the brand unveiled the DC100 Concept. We were then told to expect the new Defender to join the lineup of new Land Rover models by the year 2015. This came along with other news that the brand was planning to begin working on a low-cost entry-level model that would be featured in the U.S.

In a recent interview with Autocar magazine, Land Rover Global Brand Director John Edwards, said that the next-generation Defender will not be ready to go to market by the originally estimated date in 2015. He did not give specifics as to what is holding up the development, but we imagine that it has something to do with the implementation of the brand's new PLA aluminum platform that is currently being put into various Range Rover models.

Even if it does take some extra time to get the next Defender up and running, we are sure that it will be worth the wait. If you would like to learn more about this go-anywhere SUV or any other new or used Land Rover model in our inventory, then simply swing by the Land Rover Central Houston showroom.
