For some automakers, conquering the 10,472 miles of India's Silk Trail would be a good time to stop while they're ahead. It's understandable, really; one could hardly blame them. But for our favorite automaker here at Land Rover Houston Central, an achievement like that is only the beginning.
After putting three of their Range Rover Hybrid models to the test, it was time to see what the 2014 Range Rover Sport was made of. From there, they brought it out to the Empty Quarter in the Arabian peninsula with professional driver Moi Torrallardona behind the wheel.
For those unfamiliar, the Empty Quarter is the second-largest desert in the world. While its 527-mile length may pale in comparison to that of the Silk Road, the driving conditions were no less treacherous.
"The challenge of the desert is like nothing else. It is a brutal, unforgiving and sometimes deadly environment. Desert driving requires a unique combination of speed, finesse and technical skill," says Torrallardona. "The Range Rover Sport is exactly that. It is massively capable and is truly the best tool for conquering the desert."1
And after braving temperatures exceeding 122-degrees Fahrenheit, Torrallardona and his Range Rover Sport set a new world record by traversing the Empty Quarter in 10 hours, 22 minutes.
Needless to say, there's nothing this SUV can't handle. So if you'd like to experience it for yourself, your test drive awaits at our dealership here in Houston, TX. Just don't go risking your life while you're at it.
