Last month here on the Land Rover Houston Central blog we updated everyone on the progress of three Range Rover Diesel Hybrids and their quest of driving from the UK to India along the ancient Silk Trail.  When we last talked the vehicles were over twenty days and five thousand miles deep on the journey, however, now we can proudly say they have reached their destination and beat the tough open road.

The three diesel hybrids conquered 10,472 miles on their way from the Land Rover home in Solihull, UK to Mumbai, India.  It took 53 days of extremely treacherous and unforgiving driving on roads that would eat up most vehicles, and they spanned two continents and thirteen countries.

Along the way mother nature threw all she had at the Range Rover's, and they endured temperatures as low as -10 degrees and as high as 43 degrees Celsius.  They climbed mountains at 17,648 feet and cruised valleys down to 11,000 feet, covering almost every type of terrain imaginable.

Land Rover announced that the hybrid SUVs achieved 36 to 37 UK miles per gallon while traveling the Silk Trail.  These numbers were made possible by the combination of a 3.0-liter TDV6 engine and a 35 kW electric motor powering the vehicles across the terrain.  Fuel efficiency numbers like these are astonishing when also considering the rugged and reliable nature of the Range Rover's.

This test of endurance shows that the new Diesel Hybrid SUVs live up the brands name and will fit right in with all the vehicles we have here in our inventory of new Land Rover's.  Come by our Houston, Texas dealership if you are interested in driving a vehicle that will not give up and get the job done.
