Diesel Performance

Diesel engines produce more torque than gas engines, giving you the instantaneous power that you need when you're merging into traffic on I-10, I-290, or I-610, or when you're towing the boat trailer on the weekend. As a matter of fact, Land Rover's proprietary research indicates that a diesel engine generates up to 32.5 percent more maximum torque than a gas engine of the same size.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that's offered for the Range Rover Velar makes 180 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 engine available for the Range Rover, Land Rover Discovery, and Range Rover Sport manufactures 254 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.

Diesel Efficiency

Few fuels are as efficient as diesel, due to the fact that diesel has a higher energy density since it's not as processed as conventional gasoline. Add in the fact that compression-ignition diesel engines offer improved efficiency, and the end result is that diesel delivers both better fuel economy numbers and much cleaner auto emissions. That leads to better estimated mpg results both when you're driving in Houston and when you're taking off on the highway for a road trip.

For example, the 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 engine that's available for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport turns in 29 percent better city mpg, 26 percent better highway mpg, and 32 percent combined mpg when compared to the models' standard V6 gasoline engine's efficiency metrics.
