Learn More About the Land Rover Defender and its Rich History

While the Land Rover Defender officially debuted as a model in the 1990s, the model is based on the iconic, military-influenced Land Rover Series I. The Land Rover Series I began production in 1948, eventually replaced by the Series II in 1958.

The Land Rover Defender's origins can be traced to 1983, when the Land Rover 110 debuted. This model uses the basic framework for what eventually became the Land Rover Defender in 1990. The Land Rover Defender name took over the Land Rover 110 in 1990, and the model officially debuted as a new vehicle for American drivers in 1993.
